students |
| California
Dance Institute (CDI) is the newest affiliate of Jacques
d'Amboise's renowned National Dance Institute (NDI), an
in-school arts education program founded in the belief
that the arts have a unique ability to transform children's
lives. |
|
Directed by
former Joffrey Ballet principal dancer, Carole
Valleskey,
the California Dance Institute (CDI) program consists of
weekly dance classes in the schools, primarily for 3rd - 6th grade
students. Professional dancers trained in the NDI methodology teach
each class, accompanied by a live musician. More than merely teaching
dance, the program instills life and learning skills and encourages
children to believe in themselves, to value artistic expression,
and to develop a personal standard of excellence. The athletic,
high-energy dance style appeals to boys and girls alike, and studies
have shown that participation in the program improves students'
academic performance and self esteem.
The 28-week
program culminates in a professionally
staged performance in which the children display their accomplishments
to their families, teachers, schoolmates and the public.
