In-School Classes:
CDI partnership schools receive 20-weeks of in-school weekly dance classes. Classes are accompanied by a live musician and taught by a team of professional Teaching artists who are trained in NDI methodology.
Typically, schools contract CDI to teach all of their fourth grade classes. Some schools elect to have some third grade and fifth grade classes participate.
CDI classes take place during the school day and are non-elective. Teaching artists demand full participation by every child.
Classes perform twice during the school year. Midway through, students share what they have learned in a works-in-progress lecture demonstration assembly for the school community. At the end of the 20-weeks, students perform for the school community, parents, and the larger community in culminating performances, complete with costumes and a live band.
After-School Component: SWAT (Super Wonderful Advanced Team) Students who excel during in-school classes by showing excellence in focus, behavior, energy, and effort are asked to join their school’s SWAT Team. SWAT teams practice after school and learn more complex choreography. In addition to performing in school shows, SWAT teams from each of CDI’s partnership schools participate in the big Event of the Year show in a professional theater, with lights, costumes, and a full live band.
Celebration Team: Students who have participated in SWAT in previous years and who show exceptional commitment, behavior, focus, energy, and enthusiasm may be invited to join CDI’s Celebration Team. The Celebration Team consists of students from all of CDI’s partnership schools and is the most advanced group of CDI dancers. The Celebration Team has weekly dance practice at Eagle Rock Elementary and performs in the Event of the Year show.
Professional Development for School Staff: Partnership schools receive a CDI professional staff development session where classroom teachers and administrators learn CDI teaching techniques to implement in the classroom.
CDI also conducts professional development sessions with schools who are not yet partners with CDI but that may be interested in CDI’s program, or are interested in presenting new teaching tools to their classroom teachers.

Residencies CDI conducts short-term residencies for schools that want to get a feel for the program. Residencies are usually 2 weeks, with classes every day. They are a good alternative if a school cannot yet afford a full program, or wants to give it a trial run.
