LET'S MOVE!

CDI's 2011 Event of the Year show, Let's Move!, was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama's Children's Health Initiative, and celebrated health, fitness and the many creative ways we move.

Held at the beautiful and historic Wilshire Ebell Theatre, the show featured a professional live band, costumes and over 250 children dancing their hearts out.

Dance numbers, choreographed by our talented teaching artists, included At the Gym, Play Ball!, Yoga, Martial Arts, Fruit Salad, Move For Your Mind, and Dance the Night Away. The dancers were accompanied by our fabulous CDI Orchestra, playing music by Chopin, Gershwin, Bartok, Prokofiev, Strayhorn, Beethoven, Van Halen, and others. This year’s Finale (“Let’s Move”) was composed by CDI’s Music Director, Kevin Bowers, with lyrics by KUSC’s Alan Chapman.

Thank you to all of our In-School Coordinators, Classroom

Teachers, Principals and Parent Volunteers for their invaluable
support of our program. Most of all we thank our fabulous Dancers
for their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm!

On July 26, 2011, CDI SWAT and Celebration Team
dancers performed at the Levitt Pavilion of MacArthur
Park, opening the season’s Summer Children’s
Concert series. The interactive performance allowed
our dancers an opportunity to reprise several numbers
from Let’s Move, and allowed our teaching artists to
demonstrate our program’s unique teaching
techniques. It was an exciting afternoon for
dancers and audience alike!

SWING from CDI's 2008 production of
I Hear America Dancing
“I learned that it takes a lot of practice. I learned that it takes effort to make things happen. I learned dancers are artists and athletes….I thought the program was amazing, it was fantastic. I felt like if I was in the sky with clouds floating in the air dancing.”
-Stephanie, 3rd grade
